One of the most outspoken public figures against marriage equality, Fred Nile, will be a guest on a LGBTQI-themed episode of Q&A.
In a ‘what could possibly go wrong’ moment, he will appear on the panel alongside gay rights activist and author Dennis Altman, cabaret star Paul Capsis, and two as yet to be confirmed female panelists, according to SameSame.
The episode will break traditional Monday night format, instead showing on Thursday 18 June after a special documentary about classic Aussie movie ‘The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert‘.
It’s already being dubbed ‘Q&Gay‘, although:
Why would you call it Q&GAY when you could have called it LGBTIQ&A

Fred Nile is the leader of the Christian Democratic Party, and one of the most unfortunate people we’ve ever had the displeasure of having serve in government. He’s fundamentally conservative, wants to ban abortion / alcohol consumption under the age of 21 / women wearing full-face coverings in public, and oh yeah, straight up hates homosexuals.
Some of his more disgusting quotes include:
“She needn’t have made it public. It just promotes their lesbian lifestyle and trying to make it natural where it’s unnatural.” – When Senator Penny Wong announced her baby news, August 2011
Homosexuality should be classified as a “mental disorder” – July 2013
Homosexuality is “immoral, unnatural and abnormal” – July 2013
“The everyday voter doesn’t care about same sex marriage” – two weeks ago.

Giving him a voice on the LGBTQI-themed panel has well and truly pissed a lot of people off:
Why put Fred Nile on #qanda for the Q&GAY special? There wasn’t an anti-vaxxer on the HIV panel/white supremacist on the indigenous panel.

Inviting Fred Nile to the #QandA on LGTBI issues shows the respect with which the show perceives its subject matter.
