Fred Nile Proposes Anti-Abortion Laws, Rise In Drinking Age, Burqa Ban For NSW Parliament

Christian Democratic Party leader Fred Nile has formally submitted 20 private members bills to the NSW Parliament, which has begun sitting its first week – following last month’s state election victory by the LNP and incumbent Premier Mike Baird.

Buzz/boner killers included in Reverand Nile’s bills target (but are not limited to) abortion, women’s rights, facial coverings, the drinking age and X-rated movies:
  • banning “conduct that causes serious harm to or the destruction of a child in utero”
  • banning “the destruction of any child in utero with a detectable heartbeat”
  • forcing women who are “considering terminating a viable pregnancy to undergo counselling and to view an ultrasound of their unborn child”
  • forcing women seeking abortions to be told the procedure may cause pain to their unborn child
  • banning the advertising of alcohol and gambling increasing the legal drinking age from 18 to 21
  • banning people from wearing full-face coverings in public
  • banning X-rated movies
  • authorising the use of the term ‘State Senate’ for the NSW Upper House, and ‘State Senator’ for its members
Usually, it’s relatively simple—and overwhelmingly satisfying—to slam the door in the face of old white dudes pushing their own self-serving agenda. We do it on a near-daily basis. But things get a little trickier, logistically, when old white m8 in question currently holds the balance of power in the NSW parliament. There is no shutting down of the creature that is Fred Nile. The NSW parliament literally relies on him.
To put it politely.
