Foster’s no longer ‘Australian for Beer’, Mate !

Tim Tams, Vegemite, Chicko rolls, Bonds, and now Foster’s. The iconic brewery group has accepted British mega-brewer, SABMiller’s takeover deal worth a lazy $12.3 Billion. Although almost no Australians drink Foster’s flagship beer ‘Fosters Lager’, the brewery group is also responsible for the drunk-like-fish beers; VB, Cascade, Crown Lager and Carlton Draught, along with opulent imports; Asahi, Corona and Stella Artois. The 250 workers at Foster’s brewery in Melbourne got word they had a new boss from the media, after receiving no official notice from Foster’s. According to CEO John Pollaers, we wont see a ‘Made in Liverpool’ label on our Aussie beers anytime soon though: “You can’t really move a brewery making VB anywhere else, so I think you’ll continue see heavy investment in our business in Australia.” Regardless of this, Dick Smith will undoubtedly be pissed (excuse the pun).
