For The Love Of Tinnies & Snags, Pls Follow This Australia Day Message

Australia Day means many different things to many different people.

To some, it’s a celebration of this wondrous sunburned country. To others, it’s a reminder of the atrocities that were wreaked on the Indigenous people and original owners of the land. To many, it’s a day off of work where you sit around a pool with ya mates, sinking tinnies and listen to Triple J’s Hottest 100
But to some, it’s some sort of shining green light to get piss-ass drunk and punch a stranger. Now this… this is no celebratory act. It’s not smart. It’s not some kind of rite of passage. It’s fucking stupid, and it makes you an absolute dickhead.
Graphic designer Nick Lawler has a message for those people. He, along with most other Aussies, would like them to rethink their antagonistic bullcrap.
He designed this poster with a ‘simple but often overlooked message’ to remind people what not to do on Australia Day:

To do my bit this Australia Day, I made a poster. Please feel free to share this simple, but often overlooked message to your friends.

We spoke to Nick, and asked him for his reasons for designing the poster:
“The poster came about mostly in response to the recent tragedies involving alcohol-related unprovoked assaults. It was designed as a tongue-in-cheek dig at certain elements of society that perpetuate drunken or random violence.

It’s so simple and stupid, that it should go without saying but something about saying it seems to have captured a lot of interest.

I had no idea it would take off like it has, but I really hope that some of the interest can translate to some changed attitudes.
So, yeah. That’s all there is to it, really. Don’t be a bloody dickhead this Australia Day, orrite? Cool? Yeah, cool.
