Emma Thompson Says She Couldn’t Do ‘Love Actually’ Reunion W/O Alan Rickman

Shortly after the ‘Love Actually’ reunion special was announced, actress Emma Thompson has spoken out about why she decided she wouldn’t be taking part.
It’s as devastating as you expect: she couldn’t do it without her co-star, Alan Rickman, who played her character Karen‘s adulterous husband, Harry

Rickman tragically passed away in January of 2016, and the actress has said it’s “too sad and too soon” for her to do the special.
She said both her and the makers of the sequel had agreed that it would feel wrong for her to take part in the Comic Relief reunion special, given that Rickman passed away just over a year ago.

“It’s too soon.

It’s absolutely right because it’s supposed to be for Comic Relief but there isn’t much comic relief in the loss of our dear friend really only just over a year ago.

We thought and thought but it just seemed wrong but to revisit the wonderful fun characters of Bill Nighy and Hugh Grant and Liam (Neeson) and all of that, that’s fantastic but obviously what would he have done?”
Rickman and Thompson were incredibly close friends off-screen, and have starred in a handful of films together.

Thompson once joked about their relationship in an interview, when asked if there was anything she and Rickman *hadn’t* done together:
“We’ve had no children, but pretty much everything else.”
