Holy christ on a fucking stick, Donald Trump is deranged. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on the level of narcissism that can possibly spew from just one man, he goes and makes racial slurs against Native Americans while attempting to thank Native American former soldiers for their service.
It was during a ceremony honouring the Navajo code talkers who served in World War II, playing a vital role in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
“You were here long before any of us were here,” said Trump. “Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.”
He was referring to Senator Elizabeth Warren, and literally the only people calling her ‘Pocahontas’ are Trump and his echo-chamber.

(It’s also worth noting that the ceremony occurred in front of a portrait of President Andrew Jackson, who signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830 that led to the death of approximately 4,000 Cherokees during the forced marches that followed. Good one, guys. Great effort here.)
John Norwood, general secretary of the Alliance of Colonial Era Tribes, told NBC that Trump’s nickname for Warren “smacks of racism” and that he should “stop using our historical people of significance as a racial slur against one of his opponents.”
Warren herself told MSNBC that “it is deeply unfortunate that the president of the United States cannot even make it through a ceremony honouring these heroes without having to throw out a racial slur.”
Trump has been calling Warren ‘Pocahontas’ since 2012, when she proclaimed Native American heritage during her run for Senate. There’s no documentation to prove that claim – as has been investigated by outlets like the Washington Post – but there’s also no evidence she used it to get jobs and university placements, like her critics have claimed.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, however, had the take to end all takes. She told reporters that it’s actually not a racial slur for Trump to call Warren ‘Pocahontas’, and that “what people really find offensive is Senator Warren lying about her heritage to advance her career.”
