Florida man Ephrian Myles entered a no contest plea for animal cruelty last Thursday morning, and was sentenced to a year in county jail, after he poured hot sauce all over his girlfriend’s dog.
Myles said that he squirted the sauce on Gizmo, a three-month-old Dachshund-Chihuahua cross, because the poor puppy was “annoying” him. The pup suffered burns, and was having difficulty keeping his eyes open and breathing when Myles’s girlfriend (now former girlfriend, we hope) rushed him to a nearby fire station.
Emergency workers washed the hot sauce off Gizmo, and he was later treated for “neurological issues.” By all accounts, Gizmo is now fine. “I’m just glad the dog was OK and the guy went to jail,” Assistant State Attorney Dan Yuter told Florida’s Herald Tribune, exercising admirable restraint by refraining from curse words.
Upon release, Myles will be on probation for 18 months. He is also required to complete an anger management course, and will not be allowed to own a pet or reside in a house with animals. Probably for the best, hey.
