A group of British YouTube pranksters, who call themselves Trollstation, have been jailed for staging a violent fake art heist at the National Portrait Gallery complete with balaclavas and simulated assault, which sounds like a uniformly terrible idea which would definitely land you you in jail.
Trollstation, one of those dumb as hell prank accounts that teens love for some reason, burst into the Portrait Gallery wearing balaclavas, blasting an alarm and pretending to steal paintings. Their YouTube account has 700,000 subscribers, all of whom must also go to jail in this writer’s humble opinion.
The three morons pulled tights over their heads, ran through the gallery and grabbed a ‘fake’ painting they had planted and yelled “I’ve got a painting!” Reportedly nobody was laughing, and there was a stampede of gallery patrons trying to escape the venue. As you might expect.
They then, remarkably, moved onto another gallery to pull the same stunt – this time the Tate Britain. This time they included a female accomplice, who they put in a headlock and pretended to be holding as a hostage. Extremely funny, obviously.
Daniel Jarvis, 27, Endrit Ferizolli, 20, Ebenezer Menzah, 29, and Helder Gomes, 23 were jailed for a total of 72 weeks after pleading guilty to two counts of using threatening behaviour which caused fear of unlawful violence.
The judge wasn’t particularly keen on the fellas. “It was quite foreseeable those attending the gallery, not being in on the joke, but being familiar with recent scenes of people running for their lives from terrorist acts, would be terrified and panic. And that is what happened,” said District Judge Mike Snow.
“The offences took place in art galleries whee vulnerable persons are likely to be present. There was a high level of planning. It was a group action.”
There you have it, folks. Prank YouTubes suck. If I have to watch another vid of some 20 year olds running around in a video called ‘ART GALLERY PRANK [GONE SEXUAL]’ or some shit I’m going to lose my damn mind.
