Dave Chappelle Snuck Into ‘The Tonight Show’ To Freestyle With The Roots

Dave Chappelle sure as hell knows how to make an entrance, and an exit.

The reclusive comedian has popped back into the public eye in recent times thanks to a heck of a deal with Netflix, and a string of upcoming shows at New York’s iconic Radio City Music Hall.
The run of 14 nights, spanning most of August, has Chappelle sharing the stage with the likes of Chris Rock, Lil Wayne, Erykah Badu, Childish Gambino, Trevor Noah, Lauryn Hill, Chance the Rapper, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), and of course the legendary Roots crew.
That ain’t exactly the hardest of sell; not gonna have to put a lot of boots on the ground in order to move them tickies.
Still, you’ve gotta do at least a *little* promo work for that, and “sneaking” into ‘The Tonight Show‘ is about as good a start as you’re ever likely to see.
Chappelle put his butt down in Jimmy Fallon‘s audience and got involved with the recurring ‘Freestylin’ with The Roots‘ segment, revealing both his secret superpower (“disappearing for long periods of time“) and one great weakness (“the need for money“) in the process.
It’s a lil slice of Friday fun, and the Roots are slick as always. Get around it.

A few takeaway thoughts:
  • Jimmy Fallon’s moustache has got to go *immediately*.
  • Sneaky little appearance from Ashy Larry in the seat next to Dave.
  • Questlove‘s alphabet drum kit is all kinds of dope.
  • The lone white guy in The Roots never stops being funny.
If you happen to be travelling through the Big Apple this (American) summer, the details of Chappelle’s Radio City residency can be copped via this red hot link.
Go live your best life!
