Police in Queensland say that darkness and a steep gradient would have made it impossible for an Uber driver to see Scott Stallman, who was run over and killed late yesterday on the driveway of his Toowoomba home.
The tragic incident occurred just after 12.30 am Saturday, when Monique Stallman was returning home from a night out in an Uber, and the car hit something in the driveway of their Flagstone Creek Rd home.
Police believe that 44-year-old Stallman, a well-known local businessman, had fallen asleep on the downward slope of the family’s driveway some time before, and that he was concealed by cover of darkness when the incident occurred.
Loved ones have posted tributes to the father of three on social media, with one saying:
“Feel honoured to have spent time with this champion of a man. Rest in peace Scott Stallman you leave a huge hole in the lives of those privileged enough to have known you mate.”
There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the behalf of the 38-year-old driver, and police have labelled the event “a terrible tragedy”, while Uber have offered condolences to the family.
