Courier Mail Issues Weak Non-Apology Over Abhorrent Mayang Prasetyo Coverage

After printing a shocking front page – a report on the murder of Mayang Prasetyo by her partner Marcus Peter Volke – the Courier Mail has today issued a statement regarding their coverage.

The ‘apology,’ which basically amounted to ‘sorry you were offended, that wasn’t our intention,’ can be seen below. In other words, “someone who has said or done something offensive, hurtful, rage-making, marginalizing, and/or otherwise contemptible argues that the person to whom they’ve said or done it has no right to be offended, hurt, enraged, alienated, and/or otherwise disdainful because their intent was not to generate that reaction.” As pointed out, if you bump into someone “I didn’t mean it” is not a reasonable excuse. You apologise.

Note: No mention of any words in the “sorry,” “apologise” or “we done fucked up” family tree.

The Courier Mail – the Brisbane kin of News Corp publication The Daily Telegraph, which earlier this year turned the death of Oscar winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman into the headline “Kids Grieve For Junkie Actor Dad” – placed this statement online at the bottom of their follow up article. The article is entitled:

SMDH.

According to the News Corp website, the Courier “has long been the favourite daily newspaper of Brisbane and broader Queensland” and boasts a total audience of 3,283,000 people.
