Cancer-Surviving Grommet Gifted Surf Sesh With World Champ Mick Fanning

It is impossible for Mick Fanning to stop kicking goals.

Taking time out from the hectic surf-tour schedule, Fanning surprised teen cancer sufferer Ben Beasley today with a sneaky surf sesh at Snapper Rocks, QLD.

Surf-mad Beasley, 16, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March this year. Working around his grueling chemotherapy sessions, his family managed to tee up the surprise rendezvous with the 3-time world champ and A-grade good dude with the help of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Mum Lucy McGill said the chemo “knocks you and, it knocks your whole family. We got to round seven and we didn’t know how we’d get through… but this is going to get him through.”

Fanning echoed the same thoughts, saying “just the simple act of going surfing with someone, you know, it can just help them get through those tough times.”

While he is still undergoing treatment, his family is confident he’ll overcome his illness. Until then, young Ben gets some pretty legit bragging rights.

“I’m so stoked, it was the best moment of my life, and it was so good to meet him.”
