Call +46 771 793 336 To Talk With A Random Swede Right Now

If you’ve ever thought it was a crime that you couldn’t just pick up a phone and dial the entire country of Sweden, you are about to have your day made.

As a fun and kinda weird way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the abolition of censorship, Sweden has set up a hotline that will connect anyone that calls it to a random Swede (Swedish citizen, not like, the root vegetable).
The Swedes you might potentially be connected with are ordinary Swedish citizens who signed up via an app because they had the time and the inclination to talk to foreign strangers about their country and culture (pictured).
About 3000 people have signed up so far and are given no instructions on what to talk about, so in the spirit of the whole censorship thing they are free to say that the country is shithouse, if they feel that way.
It’s a similar idea to the @sweden Twitter account, started in 2011 by the government’s PR agency, which picks a Swede every week and lets them wax lyrical about whatever they want on the internet.
The number is +46 771 793 336, just keep in mind that international charges do apply so be sure to nick your mum’s phone out of her purse if you want to give them a bell.
