US rapper, A$AP Rocky has been charged with aggravated assault following an alleged street fight in Sweden on June 30.
Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was detained in Sweden on July 3. He will remain in police custody until his trial.
The ‘L$D’ singer and two members of his entourage were charged with aggravated assault. If found guilty, A$AP Rocky could face up to two years in a Swedish prison.
His lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, maintains A$AP’s innocence and claims that he and his two accomplices acted purely in self-defence.
“I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defence and provocation.” The lead prosecutor said.
But we needn’t stress because the US President, Donald Trump reckons he’ll give Sweden a call and “see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky”. Yep, glad to see the man has his priorities in order. *eyerolls into another dimension*
However, despite Trump’s persuasiveness, the Swedish PM isn’t getting involved.
“The Swedish judicial system is completely independent and does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others.” A spokesman for the Swedish prosecution authority said.
It is believed that footage captured by TMZ allegedly depicting A$AP Rocky “punching and kicking the man” is at the heart of the police investigation.
“In reaching this conclusion, I have studied the videos made available to the inquiry. It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet.” The prosecutor in Rocky’s case announced today.
Foreigners accused of crimes in Sweden are usually detained until trial in fear of becoming a flight risk. And unfortunately for A$AP Rocky, there’s no exception for celebs.
It looks like A$AP and his buddies are going to have to face the full extent of the Swedish prosecution system without Trump’s intervention.
