Bodies in Mexico Confirmed To Be Aussie Surfers Adam Coleman & Dean Lucas

Mexican authorities have today confirmed the two bodies found in a burnt-out van are those of Australian surfers Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas. DNA tests were used to verify their identities, and a spokesperson said the region was waiting on paperwork to finalise their findings.

The news comes after weeks of speculation. The pair drove south from Canada, and expected to reach the city of Guadalajara on November 21, but they hadn’t been seen since the 20th; the Sinaloa province they were driving through is known for its intense cartel activity.

Previously, the pair’s family members had traveled to the region to assist Australian and Mexican authorities in the investigations.

Three people have already been detained in relation to their suspected murder, and prosecutors suspect the men may have been the victims of a botched highway robbery. Two men who are also believed to be involved remain at large.
