One Game Into The AFL Men’s Season & There’s Already Been A Wild Fan Brawl

In stark contrast to the vibe and mood at every game of the AFLW ever, it has taken precisely one game of the 2019 AFL men’s season for shithouse fan behaviour to overshadow on-field efforts, with a wild fan brawl marring an otherwise entertaining season opening clash between Richmond and Carlton.

The brawl erupted between fans in the Great Southern Stand at the MCG shortly after the final siren sounded, with multiple people involved and wild punches thrown.

Footage of the brawl was captured on social media and quickly spread around, showing a chaotic scene that prevented otherwise law-abiding patrons from exiting the stand while it went down.

In the footage, other fans can be seen attempting to intervene while shouts for security are made; the brawl continues for some 40-odd seconds without authority intervention.

Victoria Police issued a statement this morning confirming the brawl had been attended to and one 19-year-old man had been issued a fine, however no additional charges were laid.

A 19-year-old man was arrested following an alleged assault at a football match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last night. It is alleged a fight broke out between a number of males inside the stadium just before 10.30pm.

An Eltham man received an infringement notice in regards to riotous behaviour of $322. The victims did not wish to proceed with further police action.

Football. It’s back, folks. Absolutely no doubt about it.
