Adani Is Boosting An Absolutely Bonkers FB Video To Coal Mine Haters

Ah, so this is fun – inasmuch as it is always fun to see an enormous mining conglomerate have an absolute meltdown on social media.

Adani, the Indian mining corporation who have faced sustained opposition from environmentalists, local Indigenous groups and farmers for their proposed Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, posted an incredibly bizarre video to their Facebook page last week.

It’s started to pick up a bunch of traction, and kind of has to be seen to be believed. Who the hell made this?

A joint investigation by Guardian Australia and ProPublica found that this post has been heavily sponsored on Facebook, promoted largely to people who live in Melbourne.

I’ll wager a bet than the inner-Melbourne urbanites they’re trying to convince probably won’t be swayed by the corporate equivalent of a 2,000 word Facey rant posted by your least favourite mate which starts with the words “First of all…”

The video ad seems largely in response to the investigation by Four Corners, which alleged that the Carmichael mine project is in deep shit financially, and won’t be the economic powerhouse it purports to be.

The video also features a very angry screed beneath it:

Trying to stall pro-job developmental projects to further their own hidden anti-development agenda is a sad but true picture of these so called activists and their funding organisations. These ‘anti-development’ ‘anti-job’ campaigns affect job creation and the economic growth story of a nation. Some of them are spreading #Whitelies and misleading people in Australia and India to defame Adani’s image besides sabotaging the progressive growth of Regional Queensland in particular and Australia in general, to be brought by Carmichael Coal mine.

Well, uh, if you were swayed by that… good work, I guess.
