22 Y.O. Backpacker Posts Statement About Brutal QLD Kidnapping Ordeal

The 22-year-old British woman who was allegedly held captive and sexually abused over a period of weeks in rural Queensland has posted a brief message to her Facebook page regarding the horrific ordeal.

The Liverpool native, who was reportedly held against her will in a Cairns hotel room in February before being discovered by police while driving on the Warrego Highway near Mitchell on March 5, wrote “I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.”

Police have charged a 22-year-old man with four counts of rape over that period. One is alleged to have occurred at the hotel between February 3 and February 28, and three counts were allegedly perpetrated between March 1 and March 5, when police claim the pair traveled extensively throughout the state’s outback.
Authorities found her at the wheel in a distressed state after a petrol station attendant notified police she left without paying for her fuel. The man was discovered hiding in the back of the 4×4.
He has also been charged with eight counts of assault, four of strangulation, two counts of deprivation of liberty, two counts of wilful damage, and two drug-related charges. He was refused bail, and will face court at a later date.
