22 Y.O. British Backpacker Held Captive, Raped Over 2 Month Period In QLD

This is something straight out of a horror movie, and you get no points for guessing which one.

A British backpacker was allegedly abducted for two months and repeatedly raped, bashed and choked by a Cairns man she’d met in Queensland.

Police rescued the 22-year-old after pulling over a four-wheel drive on the Warrego Highway at Mitchell in a random traffic stop about 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

She was behind the wheel, apparently alone, sporting serious facial injuries.

“It appears she was terrified and not able to hide that,” police said.

Upon a search, cops found her alleged attacker, also 22, hiding in a storage alcove in the back of the vehicle.

Police will allege that he met the woman three months ago, and they’d agreed to go on a road trip together before things turned violent. It’s then alleged that between January 2 and March 5, he held her against her will and assaulted her at various locations across the state.

The woman has been treated for facial fractures, bruises and cuts to her body.

The man, from the Cairns suburb of Manunda, faced court on Monday on charges including four counts of rape, eight counts of assault, four counts of strangulation and two charges of deprivation of liberty, as well as drug charges.

He remains in custody. A police investigation is ongoing.
