WATCH: Cold Chisel’s ‘Saturday Night’ Is A Joke Track Now Sydney Is Dead

“I’ve got the keys to the city / Baby
I can feel my luck / I got two days’ money / If you light me up / This heart will shine on.”

It was back in 1984 that Aussie music legends Cold Chisel recorded the film clip for their track ‘Saturday Night’ in the sleezy wonderland that was The Golden Mile in Kings Cross: bikies, prostitutes, partygoers, bouncers, fast food traders – it was a vibrant melting pot.
A world away from the cultural wasteland that now befalls the area, in the grip of the NSW Government‘s archaic lockout laws.
The juxtaposition is the latest push to highlight the impact of Mike Baird‘s rules and regulations on Sydney‘s nightlife and local business in the form of Chisel’s OG video cut against footage of the Cross in 2016.
An unknown band of anti-lockout supporters filmed the once-buzzing hotspot between the hours of 11:35PM and 2:18AM on the Saturday night just gone, April 2 – and, well, as you can see it was dead as a doornail.
We’re talking streets deserted, shopfronts closed up, cops everywhere, newspaper tumbling in the wind to dramatic effect.

It comes as submissions to the Callinan inquiry into liquor laws closes tomorrow, Monday April 4.
