In an interview with Britain’s Q Magazine, Theresa Wayman of Warpaint had some harsh words for Beyonce & Rihanna for what she calls the “hyper-sexualization” of pop music.
The guitarist for the LA band criticized Beyonce for twerking, deploying the s-bomb in what seems like a misguided attempt at a pep talk: “Every song on Beyonce’s last album has her basically looking like a slut and she does not need to do that. She’s gorgeous and so fucking talented. And they all take it as women’s liberation!”
She also had thoughts on Rihanna’s lack of subtlety: “She has an insane voice, she could’ve done something so much more subtle and artful.”
