Good Morning To Your New Eurovision Hopefuls Vanessa Amorosi And Casey Donovan

Look, let’s get this out of the way nice and early:

Wonderful. Let’s continue.

Aussie singers Vanessa Amorosi and Casey Donovan have been revealed as the first two acts to compete in next year’s Eurovision: Australia Decides qualifier, with each vocalist vying for a chance to represent Australia at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands.

Veteran pop gun Amorosi and former Australian Idol-winner Donovan will take to the Gold Coast stage in February next year in the hopes of surpassing last year’s winner, Kate Miller-Heidke, whose aerial performance landed Australia in a respectable 9th place at the international comp. It’s no small feat, but both vocalists say they’re excited for the opportunity.

“I am a proud Aussie and to have the opportunity to sing one of my songs on a huge international stage representing Australia would be unforgettable,” Amorosi said in a statement.

Donovan, who appeared at this year’s edition of Eurovision: Australia Decides as an opening act, said she “can’t wait to share the stage with some of Australia’s most talented singers.”

Last year’s outing saw Miller-Heidke’s operatic Zero Gravity triumph over the likes of Electric Fields‘ vibrant 2000 And Whatever and Courtney Act‘s Fight For Love.

Amorosi didn’t share the name of her Australia Decides entry, but did say it’s actually hidden in her new record, Back To Love. Seeing as Eurovision rules state a song can be a maximum of three minutes in length, and only one song on the album clocks under that limit, we feel pretty confident saying Gimme Your Love is the tune she’ll take to the stage.

We’ll keep you posted when Donovan’s track hits streaming services.

Eurovision: Australia Decides goes down on Saturday, February 8 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
