Vampire Weekend Get Cryptic With New Album Announcement

It’s been three years since the last Vampire Weekend release, and although it appears that the indie kingpins have been busy recording and touring, they’ve also been finding covert ways to leak details about the latest fruits of their labour. Today the band officially announced the title and cover art for their third album, which until now has only been known as MVOTC.

The band took to Twitter to direct fans to today’s New York Times Classifieds. That ‘something’ was an advertisement in the Lost and Found section with the album’s title and release date, which will happen through their label XL Recordings. How very “Guerrilla Marketing” of them.

After seeing suggestions like ‘My Very Own Talking Cat’ and ‘My Valentine Ordered Takeout Chinese’ floating around the Internetz, the name feels slightly lackluster. The acronym recently had virtual-tongues wagging after appearing in GIF-form on the band’s tumblr alongside a bunch of other cryptic acronyms. With the riddles now solved and the 12-song track list having also been released, all that’s missing now is the new music. Music that me and my cousins and you and your cousins must wait a few more months for just yet.
