Don’t act like you’re not surprised by this hard, bitter little truth-nugget: apparently Donald Trump, the Reasonable Orange Man now in charge of the United States of America, once kicked One Direction out of one of his hotels because they wouldn’t get up to meet his adult daughter.
(We’re not clear on which daughter it was, by the way; God, I hope it was Ivanka.)
According to ex-Directioner Liam Payne, the story goes that the boys were staying in one of Trump’s New York City hotels when he gave their room a call, asking for them do to a meet and greet with one of his children – all of whom, I cannot overstate, are grown-ass people.
Reportedly the group’s manager said something along the lines of “Lol sorry they are asleep because they are a touring band who have returned to their hotel to get some much-needed rest“. Believe it or not, that did not go well.
Trump asked the manager to wake the boys up; when that didn’t work, he kicked them out.
Payne told Rollacoaster:
“He said, ‘well, wake them up’, and I was like, ‘no’. So he was like, ‘OK, then I don’t want you in my hotel’. So we had to leave.”
The current leader of the free world, ladies and gentlemen: kicking a boy band out of his hotel because they wouldn’t answer a summons out of the blue to meet his fully grown daughter. Great.
