Our favourite sporting platitude says “no one remembers second best, loser” so spare a thought for the songs/artists that just missed out on this year’s Hottest 100 list. Spare an extra thought for The Middle East jam “Land Of The Bloody Unknown” which now holds the dubious honour of topping the “second” hundred list (101-200) published yesterday by triple j.
Dance music featured heavily on the list with Justice and Nero receiving three entries apiece and SBTRKT, The Rapture, Digitalism, Friendly Fires and Cut Copy all appearing at the right end of the wrong countdown. Also of note is the 46 spots occupied by Australians, two more than the Hottest 100 itself, and the terrifying news that voters considered S.Mouse’s ‘Slap My Elbow’ a legitimate piece of music.
