Time Magazine’s Best Blogs Of 2010

Despite some 200,000,000 “web logs” floating around the internet’s sizable bowels, perennial list makers Time Magazine have assembled just 25 for their annual Best Blogs of 2010 internet championships. As expected there are a few no brainer cultural touchstones like Pitchfork, Engadget, Deadline Hollywood, The Sartorialist and Hipster Runoff (music, tech, film, fashion and biting fucking social commentary respectively) but here are five Time endorsed blogs that may have slipped under your radar this year.

Zenhabits: Thanks to our chaotic existence of constant sexting, tweeting and multitasking everything, we’ve all become self-absorbed, scatterbrained, tech-dependent beings. Zenhabits teaches you how to inject more creativity and efficiency into your daily routines, with posts like “11 Creative Ways to Avoid Becoming a Workaholic” and “The Lost Art of Solitude.” The same body+soul vibe as Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop but with no trace of celebrity entitlement.

PostSecret Anonymous people send in their deepest darkest secrets on creative self-made postcards, which are then scanned and posted online. An amusing and at times heartbreaking insight into the human psyche. Only the internet and anonymity can induce this kind of pathos. Example: “I am terrified that once the newness of us and the great sex wears off, she will see my fat body and ingrown hairs and wonder what the hell she was thinking.

HiLobrow: Like the tagline says – Middlebrow is not the solution.

The Awl: The Awl is fucking awesome. Their mantra is “Be less stupid” and they’re commandeered by former Gawker staffers Alex Balk and Choire Sicha. The similarities between the two are slight, but The Awl stands on its own as it posts marginally less snarky and marginally more eclectic news, essays, and media critiques.

Information Is Beautiful: Again, a bit on the geeky side but we love how this blog’s aesthetically pleasing design can soften the blow of intimidating raw data.

TIME MAGAZINE also named its Top 5 Essential Blogs:

The Daily Wh.at
TechCrunch
Gawker
Politico’s Ben Smith
Boing Boing

And of course, the Top 5 Most Overrated Blogs:

FAIL Blog (as TIME aptly puts it, “stupidity wears thin after awhile”).
Perez Hilton (as above).
