“The Internet Is Over” Says Prince

Just like pet rocks, discmans and bell-bottom jeans, Prince seems to think the Internet is nothing more than a fad.

“The Internet’s like MTV. At one time, MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated”, he said recently in reference to his forthcoming album, 20Ten which will be released throughout Europe this month. Those of you anticipating an easy download don’t hold your breath. Instead the album will be released as a magazine freebie – much like lip gloss or a canvas bag. Because print magazines are far from over, right your royal Funkiness?

“The Internet’s completely over,” he told the Mirror. “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it, and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”

The hugely influential musician has had an unforgiving relationship with Internet abuse: He has banned YouTube and iTunes from accessing his music and has even gone so far as to shut down his official website.

Technology is like a double-edged sword for recording artists and I respect Prince for being brazen enough to voice his opinion on the topic. Yet this was swiftly overshadowed by this final remark: “Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers, and that can’t be good for you.”

Prince, computers fill your head with porn and lolz catz. Geez.
