CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry Won’t Stand For The Internet’s Slut Shaming

CHVRCHES have just released a video for their new song ‘Leave A Trace’, which should be a cause for celebration, but unfortunately, some internet ass dicks had to ruin the party by launching an attack on singer Lauren Mayberry‘s appearance.
A 4Chan thread about the video quickly devolved into a discussion of how Mayberry’s wet hair in the video makes her look like a slut, and when somebody cc’d her in to a Twitter conversation, she hit back.
“Dear anyone who thinks misogyny isn’t real,” she said, posting a screengrab and a link to the thread in question. “It is and this is what it looks like.”

CHVRHES themselves also posted a response, weeping for the general state of humanity.

This isn’t the first time Mayberry has been attacked on this basis – she has written in the past about receiving rape threats and generally awful misogynist abuse, but remains defiant, and has previously told her abusers to “bring it on, motherfuckers.”
MTV News reported on an incident earlier this year where Mayberry made a direct response to a violent threat, saying:
My band is lucky enough to have some of the most awesome, supportive and respectful fans in the world and we are so excited to be in the studio making an album to share with them. Yet, on a daily basis, we still receive communications like this. These people never learn that violence against women is unacceptable. But they also never learn that women will not be shamed and silenced and made to disappear. I am not going anywhere. So bring it on, motherf—rs. Let’s see who blinks first.
After this latest round, Mayberry sent love to her fans and supporters, and announced that she was signing off the internet for some wine and TV – a pretty solid plan, all things considered.
CHVRCHES’ second album, ‘Every Open Eye’, is out September 25.
