The Holidays Win AMP’s Red Bull Award

Congratulations to Sydney four piece The Holidays who join local heroes Goyte, Bluejuice, Jack Ladder and Oh Mercy as recipients of the Australian Music Prize’s Red Bull Award for Best Debut Release.

The band’s debut album, ‘Post Paradise’, garnered a string of four and a half star reviews (Herald Sun, Courier-Mail, The Daily Telegraph) and confirmed a heady musical evolution since their formation in 2006 and two EP releases. Singer/guitarist Simon Jones called the record ’18 months worth of our good ideas’ and described the process as being very cut and cull, with lots of experimentation and ‘thousands’ of ideas formulated before the end product materialized.

The journey no doubt paid off. For their trouble, The Holidays receive $15,000 in flights and accommodation as part of a week in the Red Bull studio in Los Angeles. There, they intend to work on demos for their sophomore album.

Said frontman Simon Jones: “So many great debut albums have come out in 2010 that we feel truly honoured to receive the Red Bull award. This award is a really important boost for us at the start of what we’re hoping will be a big year in Australia and overseas.”

The nine shortlisted acts for The 6th Australian Music Prize will be revealed in full at the Sydney Opera
House on Wednesday, February 2nd at 12pm.
