The Avalanches Prepare To Unveil “Special Announcements”

Has it really been a decade since The Avalanches first released their landmark debut, Since I Left You? It has, old people. And while the cut and paste MO they pioneered (or at least popularized) has become drearily commonplace, retrospect has only amplified that debut’s significance. See: Since I Left You’s #10 position in Australia’s 100 Greatest Albums of all time and Pitchfork’s Top 200 albums of the 2000s. It stands, arguably, as Australia’s most critically acclaimed album of the new millennium and now, thanks to a vague announcement on the band’s official website, it appears as though their mythical, long-gestating followup will soon see the light of day.

Not to prematurely soil myself but after years of postponed releases and media speculation this feels like the real thing. Also, I wonder what that Ariel Pink collaboration sounds like?

Says the website: “theavalanches.com is taking a break. Stay tuned in the coming months for special announcements.”

Vague I know, but at least it’s something.
