Avalanches Album Close To Completion (For Real)

Steve Pavlovic says the new Avalanches LP is close to completion, thus ending the eleven year waiting period for Australia’s answer to Chinese Democracy (sans terrible cornrows). Mythologized by many, the followup to 2000’s Since I Left You has attracted much speculation over the years including, but not limited to, lineup changes, false release dates and that time in 2008 when Pav promised a new LP by Christmas. That never materialized but the Modular boss seems far more assured in an interview posted today by The Music Network, saying the album is written, recorded and now ready for mixing: “They’re finished, and they’re celebrating. And they’re going to have a little party to celebrate finishing it. The next stage will see the album go to someone to mix.”

He also said a new single will (likely) find release this year with the full album to follow in 2012. Last year Ariel Pink was rumoured to contribute guest vocals to the album.

The Avalanches will next appear as part of the Pav curated Vivid LIVE event in Sydney.

This is and always will be one of the greatest tracks of all time.
