We’re know you’re as sick of hearing about this as we are of postulating its release date (read: very) but The Avalanches have just announced new details surrounding their long gestating followup to Since I Left You. As Pitchfork notes, today the band tweeted lyrics to a new song (see below) as well as some tongue in cheek title suggestions for their sophomore LP: “new song ‘the stepkids’ w/ Jennifer RTX. current album working titles – ‘on a saturday’ / ‘friday night fever’”. Jennifer RTX being Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux and those title suggestions being a play on Radiohead’s original band name, On A Friday, and glittery John Travolta vehicle, Saturday Night Fever.
No idea what that could mean except for a dancey concept album built around Progressive Disco and tight white pants. We wouldn’t hate that. We wouldn’t hate that at all.
