PSA For Ya Earholes: The Avalanches’ Album ‘Wildflower’ Is Officially Out

The second album drop from mystical unit The Avalanches has gone on for a while now, but it’s finally concluded.

Their first album in 16 years, ‘Wildflower‘ is officially out; it can be streamed or purchased and picked up from music outlets.
In a press release, the band spoke of nearly giving up on the album multiple times, so you should bloody feel lucky you’re listening to it at all:

“Hey there, so, we made another record, we put our hearts and souls into this thing and nearly gave up more than once. It’s been a wild ride and at times we thought we would never make it.  It was only through the kindness of others that we got there in the end, Jennifer, Chaz, Jonti, Shags, JM Bernard, Danny, David Berman and Jonathan Donahue especially.

Wildflower’ is infused with a home-made spirit, a musical ‘do it yourself’ attitude and is inspired by those musicians who just ‘had’ to make music no matter what. It became a kind of quasi-magical quest, and some shining lights who made records their own way, and who never gave in, were very much needed as inspiration. To us a wildflower is a just that, a certain type of person, a free spirit and someone who plays by their own rules, regardless of conventionality.

We have a strong belief in the day to day experience of music as a life force, energy capable of changing your life. We love the way that hearing a certain song on a certain morning can actually change your day, make the world look different, changing the way you perceive light refracting through the atmosphere for the rest of the afternoon. Literally changing the colour, feeling and tone of your world.

For us, ‘Wildflower’ celebrates the ‘little things’, the beauty in the often unnoticed and overlooked, and the magic and wonder of the ‘other’ side of life that most of us have either forgotten, lost touch with or are just too busy to notice anymore. This album is a love letter to that world long lost, one we perhaps didn’t even realize we had missed. So cross over to the ‘other side’ with us, and hop aboard the ‘Indian Valley Line’, that imaginary railroad in hobo folklore to that mystical place at the end of the rainbow… Coz they don’t live on dreams like us.

Peace and love, always,
The Avalanches, July 2016″
