New Avalanches LP “Definitely Going To Come Out This Year”

Avalanches rumours are like herpes: they never go away.

Look, we know you’re as sick of hearing about this mythical new album as we are of posting that one good but not very hi-res image of them looking all mysterious and shit in a lounge room in Melbourne somewhere, but according to collaborator and Royal Trux/RTX frontwoman Jennifer Herrema, the band’s sophomore LP is “definitely going to come out this year,”.

Recent developments surrounding their Chinese Democracy Since I Left You followup have included Ariel Pink guest vocals, unfulfilled label promises, a Twitter beef with Bon Iver and details of a new song called “The Stepkids”, written with Herrema, which the band dubbed “probably the best song we ever done”, but this is the most concrete evidence yet that something will materialise by the end of the year.

Today, Herrema spoke with Pitchfork about the collaboration saying “the album is definitely going to come out this year…And I heard Danny Brown is going to guest on the record, too.” Interesting.

According to Herrema, the hook up came about when “They had some music, and it made them think of a song I would have written, maybe something Royal Trux or RTX did,” the results of which sound “very melancholy.”

Stay tuned…
