Tame Impala’s ‘Currents’ Soars To Top 5 In ARIA, US Billboard Charts

Fresh from their absolutely vibrant, crowd-stopping stint at Splendour In The Grass last week, ya boys of Tame Impala fame are officially kicking more goals than they even have time to celebrate, as their glorious album Currents dominates music charts worldwide.

The performance of Currents on local charts—sitting pretty at the absolute pointiest end—is probably no surprise: while Tame Impala have *just* been knocked off ARIA’s top place by Northlane and Lamb Of God (pls) to sit at number 3 this week, Currents was occupying ARIA’s #1 throne just last week.

But perhaps more impressively, the band have officially cracked the US market: Currents now occupies the number one spot on the Alternative Album Chart, AND number 4 on the coveted top 200 album chart – a mere two places behind Taylor Swift’s 1989. When Seinfeld 2000 turns your album art into a meme in the same week—Krame Impala, no less—it’s as big a sign as any that you’ve unequivocally hit the ‘murican mainstream.

Perth’s greatest export just played Lollapalooza overnight in Chicago – prefacing a string of worldwide tour dates in the coming months.

Killing it, m8s!
