Splendour In The Grass 2014: The Highlights And Lowlights, Part 2

The Splendour In The Grass festival has officially come to a close for another year. On Saturday afternoon, we brought you the first round of our wrap-up, featuring toddler stage invasions during Violent Soho, and a particularly hectic Mix Up Stage set by the triumphant Peking Duk.
Today, we bring you round two of the wrap-up, covering Saturday evening and the whole of Sunday, with reports from live in the field by the Pedestrian.TV team. From Courtney Barnett‘s ocker-isms to dickheads letting off flares in tents (really guys, why?) we bring you the remaining highlights and lowlights of Splendour 2014.

HIGHLIGHT: Foals Closing The Amphitheatre Saturday Night

Foals put on a typically-tight Foals performance on Saturday, and even dedicated a song to the absent Two Door Cinema Club, telling the poor sick lambs to get well soon.

HIGHLIGHT: Lily Allen’s Baby-Themed Extravaganza

In-between scandalising morning TV hosts and stirring up trouble with the Federal Police, the incorrigible Lily Allen managed to put on an excellent pop show. Her stage was lined with giant baby bottles, and she was kind of dressed like a baby herself …
LOWLIGHT: Dudes Who Are Just Too Damn Charismatic For Their Own Good
Rumour has it that a certain super chill acoustic bro, who hails from around Byron way, held up the line for the bar as he flirted with two women. Two is the number of people in his band. Is this obvious enough?
HIGHLIGHT: Courtney Barnett Repping For ‘Straya
The words “fkn legend hey” and “super ocker” have been thrown around in regards to Barnett’s performance. Her bassist asked the crowd if anyone was planning to have “splendour in the ass” later that night, because of course that happened.
LOWLIGHT: Dirty, No-Good Vandals

It took no time before cheeky vandals knocked down some letters in the festival’s Hollywood-style sign, so it read PLENDOUR IN THE ASS. In fairness, though, that’s kind of great. Visiting bands all got a good laugh out of this, especially sweary Glasgow types CHVRCHES.
HIGHLIGHT: The Apparently Excellent Quality Of The Molly
Danny Brown slayed it Sunday night at the Mix Up Stage, and commended Australia on the excellent quality of our “molly.” A bit like when Scissor Sisters gave a tutorial in safe amphetamine use a few years back.
LOWLIGHT: All The Damn Flares
Police were on the look-out for contraband drugs at the festival, but apparently you could just waltz right in there with all the flares you wanted. Someone let one off during Nina Las Vegas‘s set in the Mix Up Tent, and another one went off during Outkast. Not cool, guys.
HIGHLIGHT: Metronomy’s Glitter Extravaganza

Electronic types Metronomy put on a “next level excellent” performance at the Mix Up Stage on Saturday night. Members of the Pedestrian team are reportedly still pulling confetti out of places they didn’t think they could get confetti in the first place.
LOWLIGHT: Too Much Tribal Headgear
A Canadian festival recently banned Native American headdresses for being culturally insensitive, but it seems they were all the rage at Splendour this year. Dude, don’t be that dickhead blocking everyone’s view, okay? Someone’s going to piss on your shoes.
HIGHLIGHT: Sam Smith’s Big Sing-Along

Soulful lad Sam Smith was a highlight for many, and led the Mix Up Tent in a mass Sunday night singalong. Some members of the Pedestrian team ran into him beforehand, and said he’s “very lovely and really friendly.” So there you have it.
HIGHLIGHT: The Site, The Weather And The Relaxed Atmosphere

It seems people went to the festival purely to have a good time this year. Our man on the ground says he saw one punch thrown between two hectic lads, but they were in the minority. Byron acquitted itself beautifully over the weekend, with warm days and cold nights. Logistics ran smoothly, and by all accounts, Splendour 2014 was a super friendly experience.
