There’s really nothing like getting turned away from a fancy party or having a more famous person totally blank on your name to remind you of your place in the celebrity pecking order – such was the case with singer Shawn Mendes, who was roughed up by Drake‘s security team when they had no idea who the hell he was.
The ‘Mercy‘ singer, who might be described as a more wholesome and less-heavily tattooed version of Justin Bieber, stopped in for a chat with the equally cuddly and non-threatening Jimmy Fallon this week to tell his sad tale.
It all started a while back when he met Drake at an event, leaving him “mildly star struck”, and assuming that the two of them were friends for life. When he saw Drizzy again, at a recent Weeknd show in Toronto, he thought he’d go up and say howdy. This turned out to be a bad call.
Drake’s security guard did not take kindly to a seemingly random stranger going up to give him a nudge. “Next thing I know I’m in the middle of the Weeknd show with my arm hooked behind my back,” the singer said, “his security had me completely at his mercy.”
Tough break, Shawn Mendes, tough break indeed.
