Punter At Dune Rats Gig Stage Dives Off 4M Balcony, Gets Nothin But Floor

Stage diving is a little bit like a lawyer asking questions in court: Never do it unless you’re dead certain of the outcome in advance. A punter at a Dune Rats gig in Adelaide on Wednesday night found out that crowds absolutely have a limit as to what they’ll catch, after he suffered injuries in a horrific-looking dive gone wrong.

The show on Wednesday night, at Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre, peaked just before 11pm when a young punter scaled a balcony just to the side of the theatre’s stage.

After climbing onto the balcony’s railing and – would you even believe – removing his shirt, security quickly moved to intercept him. But before that could happen, the man then leapt off the roughly 4-metre balustrade, soaring down to the crowd below, presumably under the assumption that the heaving throng of people would catch him. Instead, the crowd – rightfully fearing their own safety – scattered, leaving the would-be stage diver to land on nothing but the hardwood theatre floor.

Footage of the frankly terrifying incident was captured on smartphone by multiple punters. It’s a pretty intense watch.

Security staff immediately rushed to the unidentified man’s aid, who was suffering visible and immediate injuries. Emergency medical personnel attended the scene and transported him to hospital where he stayed overnight, before being discharged yesterday.

From all accounts, he’s gonna be ok. But holy shit. Just invade the stage like a normal psycho next time, yeah?

Neither Dune Rats nor the Thebarton Theatre have issued official comment on the incident.
