Those of you lucky enough to have had some sentient youth at the time will be fully aware of this, but for those of you born in the latter half of the decade, here’s a quick lesson.
The early-mid 90s were absolutely sick.
A simpler time, it was an era of buttonless shirts, backwards clothing, and slamming down a few tins of the gloriously re-launched Export Cola whilst blasting your copy of CDB‘s “Glide With Me” on your portable CD player that needed 12 D batteries to function.
It. Was. AWESOME.
And no man better encapsulated the spirit of the early-mid 90s better than Peter Andre.
The quintessential abs-man of the era managed to spin an entire, life-long career out of a lone smash hit single. A staple of jukeboxes and bawdy nights ever since, Mysterious Girl is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. Aaaaaaaand now you all feel old.
Though you’d be forgiven for thinking that the track was a chart-topper (it wasn’t, Flava was the only number one hit from the album “Natural” – the fifth of eight singles from that LP, and no I am not kidding) the power of the track is undeniable, and it remained a staple of many a 100% Hits compilation for years.
Regardless, the man himself has enjoyed the sweet life as a direct result of the track, and earlier today he took to Instagram to commemorate the momentous occasion.
But because Peter Andre is not a mere mortal man like you or I, he did that shit shirtless. And it doesn’t look like he’s aged a goddamned day.
Bless your sweet heart, Pete. Here’s to many more bawdy nights feeding endless coins into the pub jukebox and trying in vain to remember the words to Bubbler Ranx‘s verse.
And, for the record, if you were in doubt as to the quality of the song twenty years on from its release, you’ll be please to know that it’s aged like a fine wine.
