Christina Aguilera has taken us back to the glory days of 1999, sharing a rehearsal video of ‘Genie In A Bottle‘ to celebrate the iconic bop’s 20th birthday.
What a simple and innocent time it was – The Matrix was in cinemas, the Nintendo 64 was in its prime, and Britney and The Backstreet Boys ruled the charts.
‘Genie In A Bottle’ spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard charts in the US, and was the second-biggest selling single of the year, just behind Cher‘s ‘Believe‘.
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.
To celebrate her milestone, Christina Aguilera took to Instagram to write:
“Hi lovies! Today marks 20 years since #GenieInABottle was released… got me feeling all types of emotional! At just 18 years old, I remember coming home from Japan and seeing that it had reached #1 on the Billboard charts and feeling so grateful and happy that you guys loved it as much as I did. Thank you thank you thank you for riding with me all these years. My fighters, I love you!”
She also shared a video of a rehearsal of the song, featuring some deeply era-appropriate dance moves, which you can watch below:

She also shared an incredible throwback interview clip from the very start of her singing career, and the pure ’90s energy that it has is kind of overwhelming:

Also, just because, here’s a blessed image of Christina Aguilera attending the 1999 Teen People first anniversary party with a young Stacy Ferguson:
Anyway, if you need me, I’ll be listening to her debut album on repeat for the rest of the day:
