Lincoln Lewis Combatted His Mental Health Issues By Getting Cartoonishly Ripped

Lincoln Lewis

Home & Away alum Lincoln Lewis fell off the radar for a while there, but was unintentionally flung back into national media attention after an ABC article unravelled a massive catfishing scandal, in which a woman posed as the actor and ruined another woman’s life.

While Lincoln had nothing to do with the catfishing scandal, it was his face and persona that were used to manipulate, and it understandably would have affected him personally.

While he hasn’t specifically pinpointed that experience as being the catalyst for some mental health issues, he has posted a revealing deep dive on the story behind his new Men’s Health transformation issue cover.

For a decent amount of time I’d been stuck in a constant spiral that had left me pretty heavily broken. Something I never spoke about because I felt I never wanted to burden anyone around me but also because I thought “I’ll be sweet, time will fix it”. Something that wasn’t right or healthy at all. It got to the point where mentally & emotionally most of the time I felt broken but always made sure to put a smile on every time I’d step outside. Keeping things to myself only made it worse which took away a big part of my natural happiness, my epic spark for life, my creativity when it came to my acting & lastly – eating like shit to try & make myself feel better, I’d physically let myself go big time.

PSA – the cover is fire and Linc is extremely ripped. It must be acknowledged.

But what I really love about this story is it’s not actually about getting jacked for the sake of it – Lincoln clearly found that tidying up his eating and getting back into fitness helped his mental health.

In case guys think I’m saying that all you need to do to change your life is to change your body, well, it’s not that simple. But everything is linked. I understand that now more than ever. Everything you do has an effect on your life but no one thing can fix everything.

It’s nice to see a celeb transformation where the focus isn’t all “I feel so much better because I look like a ripped Ken doll” and is more “the actual transformation is my emotional and mental wellbeing”. I think in general we’re tired of the focus being on the physical, when really getting your diet sorted and your fitness schedule in check has far more benefits to your overall wellbeing. I know for me, when I lose the plot with my netball/barre/running (all of which I hate but I do it for the health benefits) my anxiety gets worse, I feel down more often and I have less energy – including mental energy.

Basically, it’s nice that he’s out here championing men speaking up about mental health struggles and using fitness for getting your mind in check, not just your pecs.

Love this for him.
