Oasis Takes Out triple j’s Hottest 100 Of The Past 20 Years With ‘Wonderwall’

Oasis have taken out the top spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 Of The Past 20 Years with their melancholic anthem ‘Wonderwall’, beating out The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ and Jeff Buckley’s ‘Last Goodbye’ for the title of this generation’s favourite song in recent memory, tallied from some 940,000 votes.

Australian artists fared slightly better in the second half of the countdown, with multiple pointy-end appearances from retrospective favourites Powderfinger (#10 My Happiness, #8 These Days) and Gotye (#12 Hearts A Mess, #9 Somebody That I Used To Know). True to form where these countdowns are concerned, Australian ladies and women of the world in general were significantly under-represented, with Julia Stone (and her bro) and Kimbra (and her musical bro Gotye) the only local gals making themselves heard.

Silverchair, Daft Punk and The Killers also proved popular favourites with three appearances each across the spectrum.

Macklemore did not appear once.
