Here’s Every Song That Made It Into triple j’s Hottest 100 Of The Past 20 Years

What is arguably the year’s most enjoyable and important poll because no one has to deal with a politician or go outside to vote, triple j’s Hottest 100 of the Past 20 Years has reached its halfway point following the unveiling of songs 100-51 yesterday afternoon.

Courtesy of an aspiring Antony Green in the tally room comes a number of wonderful pie charts and discernible trends emerging in the countdown thus far: with sixteen songs, Australian bands fall just short of the eighteen American entrants and are only just outdoing the thirteen from the UK; Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Jebediah, MGMT, Silverchair and The Killers have all clocked in two songs; ‘Big Jet Plane’ is the lowest-rating former number one (#81), thankfully; and as per usual, it’s all a bit of a sausage fest, with five female singers and eight women in bands making their voices heard.
The 2nd and 3rd placing songs in this year’s Hottest 100 – Of Monsters and Men’s ‘Little Talks’ (#92) and Alt-J’s ‘Breezeblocks’ (#67) –  also make up half of the four entrants from 2011-2012. Could this mean the much-maligned ‘Thrift Shop’ is due for an appearance in the countdown’s latter half? Whose blood will be spilled as musical penance for what will inevitably be perceived as the commercialisation of the countdown, again?
Find out when The Hottest 100: Vintage, So Adorable edition recommences from 12pm today, AEST.
