So long and goodnight, My Chemical Romance. The reluctant punk-emo band have called it quits after twelve years, issuing their famous last words in a blog post on their website:

Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.

MCR first came to prominence with their debut album “Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge” in 2005. Both ‘Three Cheers‘ and their sophomore follow-up, the conceptual rock opera “Welcome To The Black Parade,” went platinum and received popular and critical acclaim for their theatrical musical ambition. The band would release both four studio albums and legions of mid-aughts adolescents from a prison of angst and guy-liner.
Frontman Gerard Way yesterday tweeted the following.
Carry on.
