Earlier this week, photos appeared in the tabloids showing Lorde hugging songwriter and producer Jack Antonoff on the streets of Auckland, further fueling the long-standing rumour that the pair are more than just friends.
There has been talk of a possible relationship between Lorde and her Melodrama producer ever since he split from his girlfriend Lena Dunham, and overnight, Lorde herself finally addressed the rumour, when a fan asked her directly during an Instagram live chat.
“Guys, no!” she responded. “Jack and I are not dating … I love him. He’s awesome, but we’re not dating!”
Antonoff had been with Dunham since 2012, and the pair split in early January of this year, a decision that they described as “mutual.” Rumours quickly began to spread about Antonoff and his collaborator, and he took to Twitter to dismiss them, saying:
normally i would never address rumors but i resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip. those relationships are deeply important and sacred. with that said, im not seeing anyone. lol.
Fuck, I want a t-shirt with “dumb hetero normative gossip” on it, but that’s neither here nor there.

Last April, Lorde wished Antonoff happy birthday in a lengthy Instagram post, thanking him for their “long creative conversation” and adding “ours is a relationship that will be special and vital for a long time.”
Much of her album Melodrama was inspired by her breakup with photographer James Lowe.
