Lorde’s Lil’ Sister Is An Insta-Famous Published Poet HBU?

For the record, I didn’t even know Lorde (Ella Yelich-O’Connor) had a sister but here we are feeling shooketh and slightly salty.

This family needs to chill.

India Yelich-O’Connor is a 19-year-old Kiwi living in New York and she’s just published her first book of poetry, Sticky Notes  (the signed version is already sold out)  which came out today. Chill.

India or Indy, as she likes to be called, just did an interview with Refinery 29 and oh my God it’s too cool and edgy. In it, she discusses her inspiration, love for fashion, her self-discovery, and her relationship with Lorde.

Of the latter she says:

“I think definitely being Lorde’s sister maybe made me want to find my own voice. Writing for me is the one thing that I just am free. I think that I was really blessed to have her become so well known because it kind of taught me so many life lessons.”

Oh, and this:

(Context – the previous statement was, “Even though she’s famous, she’s still your sister”.)

“Oh my god for sure. We’ll be at the dinner table, and I’ll be like ‘You’re doing the dishes.’ She’ll be like, ‘No I’m not doing that.’ I mean it’s just a special job, really. I don’t think of it as like…I think she’s different. The person on the stage is different than my sister.”

Weird, cool, and sweet all at the same time.

Indy is also quite the Insta aficionado and uses the social media platform to share poetry with her near 30,000 followers. Now, all of this makes sense when you give her website a little suss and find out her mother, Sonya Yelich is also a poet. Again, this family needs to chill.

Here’s some of Indy’s poetry:

Now just imagine if this family teamed up on something. Ugh, the talent.

Turns out Indy also sings, double ugh. Here’s the single she released in 2014.

But all of this aside, Indy doesn’t think she’s “somebody as of yet” for having a poetry book out or a bunch of followers.

“I just wanted to have something that maybe young people could relate to.”
