Laneway Founder To Personally Match Over $80K In Charity Proceeds From Tix

Danny Rogers, one of the founders of St Jerome’s Laneway Festival has pledged to match donations from ticket sales to two charities, saying that there’s “never been a more important time” for the lucky few to pitch in and make a difference.

For the past two years, Laneway has partners with Plus 1, an organisation which partners with musicians and festival organisers to donate $1 with each ticket sold to charity organisations. Laneway is working with Yiriman & The Dean Turner Project and Oxfam‘s International Crisis Fund – both of which will receive 50% of each ticket sold.
In addition to the $1 donated, Rogers has pledged to match the donation – so if they sell 80,000 tix, he’ll donate $80,000 out of his own pocket in addition to the funds going through the fine folk at Plus 1 – and he says he’s hopeful they will.
Speaking to PEDESTRIAN.TV, Rogers said it’s important for people with the means to get amongst it these days:
There’s never been a more important time to do it. The world’s in a bit of a diabolical place at the moment, and it’s up to those who are far more fortunate to pitch in and help out.

Yiriman & The Dean Turner Project is a program which helps Aboriginal youth in the Kimberley region to go back to Country with their elders and reconnect with their culture, helping them to forge a stronger sense of identity. You can learn more about Yiriman HERE.

You probably know what’s goin’ on with Oxfam, but their International Crisis Fund goes towards supporting the more than more than 65 million people who have been forced to flee their homes to escape from conflict, violence and persecution. Find out more about the fund HERE.
Love a good cause while you’re getting loose to some festy faves.
