Kanye x A Right-Wing Group Famous For Wearing Diapers Is 2018’s Weirdest Collab

I think we can probably all agree that, especially now, there’s very little value in reporting that Kanye West is doing something weird. It’s not novel, it’s not even particularly interesting, it is a lot of the time more confusing than it is anything else. The exception I’m willing to make here is when it somehow intersects with conservative America‘s foremost diaper enthusiast club.

As you might have noticed, Kanye’s previously expressed fondness for Trump has resurfaced, with Ye professing his respect for the interestingly coiffed American president’s “dragon energy“. I’m not really sure what dragon energy is but, hey, by Kanye’s reckoning, they both possess it. Good on ’em.

This interest in conservative politics also led him to Candace Owens. Owens is a proponent of free-market capitalism who believes that social welfare programs entrench poverty in disadvantaged communities and that those programs (largely championed by the Democratic Party) are keeping black Americans (metaphorically) on the ‘plantation’.

Kanye engaging with black conservativism in itself is not particularly funny, what is actually funny is the idea of Kanye engaging with the organisation that Owens works for: Turning Point USA.

Turning Point USA describes itself as a non-profit organisation whose goal is to “identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government.” So, similar in mission and composition to the Young Liberals, except somehow much, much more obnoxious. TP USA was founded in 2012 by then-18-year-old Charlie Kirk, a man who is never bereft of an ‘I’m a political pundit’ blazer, seems to be physically pained by the existence of the sun, and is quite possibly the wrongest person on the internet.

Kirk’s bread and butter is either willfully misunderstanding issues or simply misunderstanding them in the regular, old-fashioned way. From there, he very confidently asserts a series of equally misinformed opinions on Twitter to an audience of extremely credulous MAGA sewer monsters and in real life to the same audience but a bit younger.

Given just how many Kanye fans would commit actual murders in order to hang out with Kanye, it seems absurd that one of the people given this rare opportunity is Kirk, who is, by all appearances, the anthropomorphisation of the concept of not having sex while you are at university. But here we are:

All of this is just background on the important part: the diaper incident. As I’m sure you’re very aware, the worst people alive are right now obsessed with belittling the people they see as their opponents on the left as ‘snowflakes’. When they’re not too busy complaining about progressives saying things they don’t like, internet conservatives just fucking love the shit out of making fun of progressives for being ‘triggered’ and having ‘safe spaces’. Members of the Turning Point USA  chapter at Ohio‘s Kent State University, having had enough of these soft lefties and their ridiculous snowflake antics, decided they would absolutely eviscerate them with a kind of satirical pop-up theatrical piece.

In short, they decided to diaper up:

In the ensuing fallout, the Kent State branch of Turning Point USA was disbanded, with chapter president Kaitlin Bennett ripping into TP USA leadership in her resignation letter for pretending like the chapter had acted alone:

Despite my hard efforts, I have been highly disappointed in the leadership of those higher up than me in Turning Point USA. I was embarrassed to have been left alone to deal with the aftermath of the safe space event, and even lied about by Turning Point national. [Field director Frankie O’Laughlin and regional manager Alana Mastrangelo] approved the event but took zero responsibility to save face for yourselves. Not only did I invite you to attend our entire free speech week, but you even told me you would help me apply for a grant for the event.

I was also made aware by other Turning Point chapters under your watch that you were fully aware that Young Americans for Liberty members were the ones who dressed up as children, and that instead of putting the blame where it belonged, you not only distanced yourself from the event, but you let my chapter face the consequences of online harassment.

It is difficult to think of a more perfect example of conservatives tripping over their own dicks and showing their asses in an attempt to ‘own the libs’, even in a universe where they destroyed their own coffee machines because Keurig pulled ads from Fox News.

It’s impossible to say what the fuck’s going on with Kanye right now but at least we can all stop to think about how he’s hanging out with the leader of a student conservative diaper club and smile.
