Jay-Z Voices Support For Marriage Equality

Jay-Z has spoken out in support of Barack Obama’s endorsement of marriage equality. Describing the President’s stance in a recent CNN interview as ‘the right thing to do’, he joins the growing celebrity super group rallying around Obama since announcing his public support late last week. The rapper opposes the current state of affairs deeming it as ‘discrimination, plain and simple.’

In addressing just one of his 99 problems Jay said, “I’ve always thought of it as something that is holding the country back.”

“What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks.”

As Obama continues working to win over the general public whilst facing backlash from religious leaders, Jay-Z made the point that pushing for gay rights is far more important than just winning votes. And he isn’t the first high profile figure to compare marriage equality to the civil rights movement, with Janet Jackson and Will Smith also giving public praise to Obama for taking a politically bold position.

And now to hip hop’s greatest gif:
