Gotye Becomes First Aussie To Top US Charts In 12 Years

Congratulations to Gotye aka Wally De Backer who’s inescapable pop juggernaut, “Somebody That I Used To Know” featuring Kimbra, has become the first Australian single to go number 1 on the US charts in 12 years.

“Somebody” now joins a small esteemed group of Aussie acts to have cracked the summit of the American Billboard Charts, which includes Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”, Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” and, the reigning Australian single to have gone #1 in the US, Savage Garden’s 2000 hit “I Knew I Loved You”.

His ecstatic local representation Bossy Music also noted that his album Making Mirrors also broke into the top 10 of the US Billboard 200 this week, hitting the #7 spot, which is a fantastic achievement for the famously impenetrable US market.

If you are yet to hear the earworm that all the fuss is about (seriously?), here you go. All together now…
